Related Services for Practice Areas Added to the Justia Lawyer Directory

A new services filter in the Justia Lawyer Directory will make the process of connecting consumers with attorneys more streamlined and precise.

To help consumers connect efficiently with attorneys suited to their needs, we have introduced related services to many practice areas in the Justia Lawyer Directory.

Lawyers may now specify services they provide for select practice areas. This allows consumers’ searches to better match attorney services.

What Are Related Services for Practice Areas in the Justia Lawyer Directory?

Related services for a practice area are the services or types of cases that a lawyer handles within a practice area.

Most consumers initially look for a lawyer by way of a broad practice area; for example, a consumer might search for an “immigration lawyer.” But the consumer might need a particular service that is not handled by all lawyers in that practice area. Immigration law has many services that are not provided by all immigration lawyers. One immigration lawyer might focus on work visas, while another focuses on fiancé(e) and family visas, and still another might focus on deportation defense. By allowing consumers to filter the Justia Lawyer Directory practice area listing page by service, they can be better matched to a lawyer who can fulfill their needs.

How Lawyers Can Add Related Services to Their Justia Lawyer Directory Profile

Adding and Editing Services for Current Practice Areas: Attorneys with Justia Lawyer Directory profiles can and should identify the services that they provide in each of their current practice areas. They can go to the Practice Areas section in the editing interface of their profile to do this. If they want to add or remove services, they can click on Edit/Delete next to a practice area and check or uncheck the checkboxes for the services that they wish to show on their profile. For example, a family law attorney who handles child support but not adoptions will want to make sure that the child support checkbox is checked and the adoption checkbox is unchecked.

Adding and Editing Services for a New Practice Area: If an attorney wants to add a new practice area, they will need to click on Add a Practice Area in the Practice Areas section in the editing interface. They can then select the services that they offer within that practice area by checking the checkboxes next to the services that they provide. Once services are checked, they will appear next to the applicable practice area in the Practice Areas section of the attorney profile. The Practice Areas section is positioned prominently near the top of the profile, allowing consumers to quickly identify attorneys whose expertise is a good fit for them. Thus, adding practice areas and their related services is well worth the time.

How Consumers Can Find Lawyers Who Offer Services in the Justia Lawyer Directory

There are two ways for consumers to find lawyers who offer services related to a practice area in the Justia Lawyer Directory: (1) filtering the results from a practice area listing page; and (2) using autocomplete when searching for a lawyer.

Filtering results on a practice area listing page. Practice area listing pages now feature related services as a filter option. A consumer who reaches a listing page can click on Services at the top of the page and select services related to that practice area. Once a service is selected, the listing page will refresh to show only the attorneys who provide that service.

Search autocomplete. When a consumer begins to enter the name of a service in the Justia Lawyer Directory search bar, an autocomplete phrase will appear with the name of that service and the parent practice area. By clicking on the autocomplete suggestion, the consumer will access a list of attorneys who offer that service within the practice area. For example, a consumer who searches for “Chapter 11 Bankruptcy” and clicks on that phrase will see a list of bankruptcy attorneys who handle Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.

Justia Premium Placements for a Practice Area Include Justia Premium Placements for All Related Services

Lawyers who have a Justia Premium Placement for a practice area will also receive Justia Premium Placements for all related services pages. These Justia Premium Placements for the related services are being included with your Justia Premium Placement for the practice area at no extra cost.
