In May 2023, a federal judge discovered fake cases cited in a filed brief. When questioned, the lawyer indicated he used ChatGPT to help with the research and drafting process and was “unaware its contents could be false.” The subsequent sanctions hearing incited debates across the legal community. Should lawyers steer clear of AI tools in their practices? Or would prohibiting the use of AI in the legal profession be a disservice to both lawyers and their clients?
In Practice Law With AI (Without Losing Your Law License) – accredited for one hour of California general MCLE credit, Kara Simon and Marina Wilson, attorneys and members of the Justia team, discuss considerations for using AI in your practice, including ethical obligations and practical use examples.
