Google Testing Search Mode With Filter Box to Narrow Down Your Results
Google is testing a new search feature called "See results that mention" that comes with a filter box.
Approximate Read Time: 1 Minute
This relatively new feature was first reported on Twitter by Carrie Hill, a local SEO analyst, back in October 2020. However, we have seen it more frequently for a wide variety of searches in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).
The new “See results that mention” feature allows users to filter the Google results on the page by selecting from the collection of words shown in the filter box. The new filter box usually shows up on either the left-hand side, top, or right-hand side of the SERPs in desktop devices. We have not seen this feature on mobile devices yet.
Let’s see how this works. In the below example, we searched the query “traffic violation fine” in Google. For this test, along with the usual results, Google also incorporated the filter box with a number of words mentioned in the results. Here you can see the words “payment,” “conviction,” “traffic ticket,” “jail,” “point system,” and “points,” each with a checkbox.
If you want to narrow down the search results on the page and focus on the ones that include the listed keywords, you can use the filter box to check any of the options. Google will adjust the results by collapsing all pages except those mentioning the selected word(s).
Google is constantly experimenting with changes to its search results, to improve the user experience. Time will tell if this change makes its way to the Google search results for everybody.
In the meantime, we are happy to see Google testing new ways to enable users to easily find the results they are looking for. The new “See results that mention” filter box would be a welcomed addition to the already existing ways to filter results on Google.
